Kuala Lumpur – HOM (House of MATAHATI) enjoys doing things differently and this March sees the gallery bringing together some of Malaysia’s leading contemporary artists for an exhibition titled A Meter Diameter.
The exhibition will be held from 17 March-07 April and features eighteen of the most exciting contemporary artists working in Malaysia today.
A Meter Diameter follows in the vein of previous shows that the gallery has mounted, namely the2010 show A Meter Perspective and 2011’s Horizontal or Vertical – both featuring artists who were asked to produce works based on specific size or format requirements. In the former, artists showcased paintings measuring 1x1meter, whilst the latter featured works lying horizontally or standing vertically.
The third year running, this format-based show thus looks to be a regular affair for the Ampang-based gallery, whose exhibition calendar also routinely includes HOM’s artist residency exhibitions and solo exhibitions by leading artists.
In A Meter Diameter, all the participating artists were given the curatorial challenge of having to work within specific formal constraints – round canvases measuring one meter in diameter. An unusual shape, the resulting works are bound to tickle and excite audiences as the participating artists have injected their own personal brand of workmanship and creativity into the limited space.
Entrance to the exhibition is free and A Meter Diameter ’s participating artists include Ramlan Abdullah, Sabri Idrus, Samsuddin Wahab, Latif Maulan, Wong Chee Meng, Ng Kim Peow and among others.
Audiences can expect great variety and boundless ingenuity on show.
