MATAHATI ke Matadunia

MATA k.n. organ of sight; iris of this; region round; infers the ability to SEE
HATI k.n. literal meaning – liver, large organ in the abdomen, secreting bile; animal’s liver as food/ figurative meaning – the emotional heart  - infers the ability to FEEL
MATAHATI – to See with One’s Heart, to Search for A Truth
As far as an introduction of Malaysian contemporary art to American audiences is concerned, MATAHATI KE MATADUNIA – MALAYSIAN CONTEMPORARY ART TO THE WORLD, an exhibition of paintings by the Matahati group of artists is a foregone and fitting choice.
The Matahatis’, as they are fondly known at home and in the region, have been directly influenced by some of our fledgling Malaysian modern art movement’s most important thinkers and practitioners. Hence their experience and development broadly reflects the chronology of our modern art history as well as it’s current destinations, and future preoccupations.
As a collective and as individual practitioners the Matahatis’ have, in turn, become extremely influential in the content, aesthetic and to some extent, the infra-structures that drive and shape the future of our contemporary art movement.
