F KLUB CELEBRATES THE HUMAN FIGURE IN ART
In ‘Seated’, Malaysia’s top figurative artists showcase works from the last four months

Kuala Lumpur, December 2012 - F Klub was conceptuatlised by some of Malaysia’s leading figurative artists as a vehicle to celebrate the human figure in art. The informal group has been meeting up on an ad-hoc basis for the last four years, and this January, presents works produced during life drawing sessions from 2012.

These life drawing sessions began four months ago, with the artists inviting models to pose for them as they produced artworks within short periods of time.

The exhibition, titled Seated, will be exhibited at Ampang-based HOM from January 9-23.

An old tradition, life drawing isn’t normally seen in Malaysia outside of the classroom. Indeed, non-academically, one of its earliest documented sessions in Malaysia can be traced back to the Wednesday Art Group, whose members even took turns to pose during these sessions during the mid-twentieth century.

F Klub represents a revival of this sense of camaraderie, and the F Klub artists showing in Seated are Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Chin Kong Yee, Marvin Chan, Chong Ai Lei, Gan Chin Lee, Kow Leong Kiang, and Shia Yih Yiing.

What audiences can expect is a diversity of styles from each artist, despite the subject matter being identical.

From artworks inspired by Chinese ink painting, to works that border on classical modes of representation. Seated is a fresh revival on life drawing, with Malaysia’s leading figurative artists bringing their own distinct flavour to the plate.

“There was a lot of experimentation in these sessions, which viewers will notice in some of the pieces. A few of the artists chose to step outside of their comfort zone, and this has made for some very interesting works of art,” points out Bayu, who is also HOM’s director.

For audiences, Seated is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to see the human figure celebrated in all its glory. Entrance to the exhibition is free and purchase enquiries can be made directly with the gallery.
