PRIVATE SENTIMENT: E-invite

Yeoh Choo Kuan (b.1988) in Kelantan, Malaysia. He graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from Dasein Academy of Art, Malaysia in 2010.  As an emerging artist, he has participated actively in several Malaysian art awards. Choo Kuan was a finalist in the VAA Starhill Gallery Arts Awards in 2010 and 2011, as well as a finalist in the Malaysian Emerging Artist Award in 2011. After a year of backpacking solo to Southern Asia and Europe, the artist has returned to Malaysia to begin his six months artist residency with HOM Gallery.

Private Sentiment is Yeoh Choo Kuan’s showcase of works produced during the residency program at HOM. Taking inspiration from his personal journal, immediate surroundings and by abstract expressionist artists, Choo Kuan’s main interest is to express the basic human emotions through his manipulation of brush strokes, line and use of colours. To Choo Kuan, words cannot explain the feelings he wishes to articulate. So, he paints the expressions and to him this feels more complete.
