TP II is a printmaking exhibition by Cetak Kolektif showcasing remarkable works by 9 young contemporary artists.The exhibition title TP II derives from the printmaking term “trial proof”, a precursor to limited edition series in the process of producing prints. Like “test print”, these preliminary prints are pulled to enable the artist to inspect, refine and perfect the prints to the desired results. As a sequential collective show, TP II represents the second run - to examine each individual’s concept of printmaking from their past, present and future practice by employing centuries-old Western technique into contemporary context and at the same time showcasing the fruits of their labour in a unified manner – an optimistic progress from Test Print, evident in its participants and the excellence of works on display.
Cetak Kolektif is a group of high-spirited, like-minded artists whose practices go beyond the realm of conventional art making. Conceived as a celebration for the art of print, Cetak Kolektif aims to gather new talents in printmaking and to cultivate the medium through its yearly display. Following a successful inaugural show Test Print in 2014, this edition introduces 4 exceptional new artists Mark Tan, Agnes Lau Pik Yoke, Fadhli Ariffin and Toh May Xuen who form the growing collective alongside Sabihis Md Pandi, Hazul Bakar and founders Samsudin Wahab and Faizal Suhif. With a common goal to elevate the status of printmaking as an important and treasured artistic media, Cetak Kolektif continues to push the endless limitations of the art of reproduction by offering viewers an appreciation for the fundamentals of visual consumption.
