How does one exemplify a successful convergence as an art
collective? Is there a certain formula or assembly line method for such an
institution? How would its achievements be measured? Must it carve a
significant narrative to the global or local art history? Would it be
sufficient if it serves only to be a part of the conversation instead of being
a major source for discourse?
SIX is a work in progress that attempts to answer these
questions. 'Work In Progress' is the keyword here, as the artist in this group
(and their works) stems from the desire to produce an art group through an
assisted management, by means of HOM Art Trans. It aims to question the
viability of such methods, and the improvements or advancements that could be
gained from it. At this point of the experiment, almost everything is up to
amendments, as long as the initiatives are beneficial to the members and their
current aspirations.
This experiment in an organic existence of an art group is a
rare one indeed, as it is possible by means of support and trust from
institution such as HOM Art Trans. The name itself is a recent iteration that
evolved from various previous groups, and the members have been fluctuating
over time. This process of elimination forces the remaining members to think
long and hard about what are the qualities that sustain a group, and what
ideals should be put down in order to have a strong ideological foundation to
drive it.
Compromises are inevitable - but what kind of it would be
acceptable? Can artistic vision ever be compromised? Should ideological
aspirations be limited to fit a larger narrative? How far an execution could be
handed out in order to fit a certain worldview? These questions are constantly
bombarded throughout the group making process, and plays a large role in
determining the eventual outcome that a group could finally call to be truly
their own. The works presented in the current show are an exemplification of
these experiments. It would attempt to answer, and at the same time raise even
more questions that would in turn force us to move on and further fine-tune our
way throughout the process
